POST-ELECTION REVIEW / NOVEMBER 4, 2026

The results.
The forecast.
The difference.

Democratic control was the favored outcome in both chambers. The reported results match that direction, but the Senate seat count already exceeds the archived projection.

Explore the reviewed results ↓
PRELIMINARY, NOT LIVE. National totals use ABC News; individual race calls and returns use Decision Desk HQ. Source timestamps differ. Leads, uncalled races and unreviewed races are never counted as wins.

01 / CHAMBER CONTROL

The direction matched.
The count is unfinished.

The comparison below preserves the DDHQ November 2 benchmark reproduced in the supplied report. It is not a claim that Bellelytics developed the national forecast.

U.S. House

CONTROL MATCH

Reported seats · ABC News

229D/163R

43 seats unresolved

Archived seat projection241 D / 194 R

Democratic control matches the 84% pre-election favorite. The final seat-count difference cannot be scored while 43 seats remain unresolved.

ABC snapshot: Nov. 4, 8:56 a.m. EST.
National House source ↗

U.S. Senate

CONTROL MATCH

Called seats plus holdovers

54D-caucus/44R

2 contests unresolved

Archived seat projection52 D-caucus / 48 R

Democratic control matches the 65% pre-election favorite. The D-caucus total is already 2 seats above the archived projection.

ABC snapshot: Nov. 4, 9:14 a.m. EST.
National Senate source ↗

Senate comparison includes the report's 34 Democratic-caucus and 31 Republican holdovers. Alaska and Mississippi are unresolved in this review. Holding existing calls and caucus alignment fixed, the D-caucus total can finish at 54–56, or 2–4 above the benchmark. This is an arithmetic range, not a probability interval. House unresolved count: 435 − 229 − 163 = 43.

02 / FAVORITE-HIT SCORECARD

Keep the denominator
in the picture.

Only races with a DDHQ call are scored. A correct favorite is not proof of probability calibration; a 51% favorite losing is not equivalent to a 95% favorite losing.

ALL SENATE CONTESTS REVIEWED

31 / 33

93.9% of called races

2 misses · 2 uncalled
The misses: Iowa and South Carolina.

SELECTED HOUSE BATTLEGROUNDS

8 / 18

44.4% of called races

10 misses · 9 uncalled
27 reviewed; 408 House races not individually reviewed.

PENNSYLVANIA: FOUR RACES

3 / 4

Both baselines; different misses

The national benchmark missed PA-01.
The earlier Pennsylvania experiment missed PA-10.

These are descriptive favorite-hit rates for the reviewed calls, not final model grades. The House sample was selected for competitiveness in the pre-election report and is not representative of all 435 districts.

03 / SELECTED COMPARISONS

Where the forecast
met the result.

Iowa was close to a coin flip in the archive. South Carolina was a Republican favorite, but not in the report's 65%-or-higher upset-watch category. Missouri's 2nd and Alabama's 2nd districts did meet that threshold.

Archived probabilities below are selected editorial excerpts from the supplied report/workbook. Source links open the result provider's current pages; their forecast widgets may now differ from the preserved November 2 archive.

The 10 favorite misses in the reviewed House sample are PA-01, FL-22, TX-15, MT-01, KY-06, WI-01, SC-01, VA-01, MO-02 and AL-02. The remaining called races in this sample matched the archived favorite. A party flip is not automatically an upset.

04 / KEEP THE PENNSYLVANIA EXPERIMENT SEPARATE

Same headline score.

D and R columns show the named main contenders, not aggregated votes for every candidate sharing that party label. I / other is the modeled independent contender, not all minor-party votes. Some candidates are omitted from this comparison table; the source links carry the broader return. Published percentages and reporting estimates are preserved, including differing denominators. Votes and leads may have changed since the shown timestamp.

06 / WHAT THIS REVIEW DOES NOT CLAIM

No hindsight edits.

The baseline remains the supplied November 2 national benchmark. Current provider forecast widgets are not substituted. The original workbook and report are unchanged.

No final margin grades.

The internal workbook calculates provisional reported-minus-forecast margin differences. Counts are incomplete and source conventions can differ. These are not certified margin errors.

No national House accuracy claim.

Only the preselected battlegrounds and two additional PA races were individually reviewed. Uncalled and unreviewed races are excluded from the favorite-hit denominator.

Two archived data issues remain visible: Kansas favored Hamilton by win probability while listing a −1-point Democratic margin; NC-11's margin field is the nonnumeric text “$-0” and is not scored. A missing modeled probability is not zero. The national benchmark's historical reconstruction and redistribution limits remain described in the source methodology.
